Yes!

So I managed to get my music off of the broken hard drive!! It was actually really easy, and only took about 10 mins. Obviously, I burned everything on to CD so that if this ever happens again, I at least have a back up.

Phew....

Email Convo of the Week

[Name Omitted]:" is he a top? yes

did [Name Omitted] take it up the ass? yes

was it good? yes

any other questions from the peanut gallery?"

This is an email I received in the morning while I sat down at my desk, drinking a nice cup of coffee and getting ready to work. At this point in time, I hadn't ready any of the other emails associated with this convo. After getting caught up to speed, it made a lot more sense.

This conversation took place on monday and tuesday, after a particularly booze fueled weekend, including a Sunday night at JR's:

Monday
Friend #1: [Name omitted], did you take that gentleman home?

[Name Omitted]: no i did not. i am a lady in every sense of the word.
we are going on a date tonight though.

Tuesday
Friend #1: was your chicken fresh last night?

[Name Omitted]: well it was a lovely affair. however, a last-minute scheduiling [sic] change caused a conflict with our original dinner plans, so we were unable to attend. however, all parties were satisfied by the end of the evening.

Friend #1: And will a lady be going for a second plate to the buffet?

[Name Omitted]: he said he wants to see me this weekend. what the hell, he's young and I don't know what to make of him, but whatever. i have no one (er, nothing) better to do.

Friend #1: and what r u going to do with him? and der, is he really a top? obvi, the message boards are filling up with speculations!

[Name Omitted]: is he a top? yes

did [Name Omitted] take it up the ass? yes

was it good? yes

any other questions from the peanut gallery?.

Friend #1: WOW...after a night like that I would think a lady would not have had so much pent up aggression!
Me: [Name Omitted], please do not send that kind of smut onto my work email address :-)
Friend #2: I am blushing. I have no words.
[Name Omitted], you are such a f*cking lady

[Name Omitted]: i just figured i'd kill four birds with one stone since i knew inquiring minds wanted to know *wink*

Phew! I've made it for another year. Of course come January 1st, it starts all over again.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

So I came into work on Tuesday morning and turned on my computer. Went to the kitchen and got some coffee. Normally in this amount of time I'd have a happy little prompt asking me for my user name and password. Instead I get this:

" Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
c:\windows\system32\config\system

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

Hmmm, that sounds ominous. Well let's just turn it off and turn it back on and see what happens. Usually that does the trick. [Off] [Wait 5 secs] [On]. After a couple of secs, I get the same error. Hmmm, now it's a bit more ominous. Seeing as this is my office and not my home, and that we are much more organized here in the office than at home, I go searching for this magical 'original setup cd' that can cure my computer. Find it, stick it in, and....still the error.

GRRRR. So I fiddle with the boot order, chosing CD-ROM first instead of hard drive. Still nothing.

Eliminate hard drive as an option.

Still nothing.

Right, maybe of got the wrong CD. Try eight others and still nothing.

At this point, puzzlement has turned into despair. Now, I bet some of you are a little puzzled yourself. "Umm, dude it's your work computer. Score! Now you won't have to work." Theoretically you'd be right. But you see, I've had this work computer for over three years. I work for a small company who, unlike many companies, doesn't restrict what you can put on your computer. As I spend far more time on my work computer than I do on my home computer (not to mention the fact the up until recently I didn't have a home computer) I've put all of my music, legititmately downloaded and paid for over the past three years, on my work computer. Easily this is north of $1000 dollars (look, for me that is a lot and that is also separate from all of my physical CD's I uploaded). I think I have a plan to fix it, gonna take out the hard drive and see if I can recover it. Hopefully it'll work. If not, I'll cry.

PS. I have an iPod Nano, and almost all of the music was in 320kbps (16-20 meg) files so 99% percent is not saved on my iPod. So. Sad.

Am I in the Twilight Zone or...

...did The BBC (aka Chaka Kahn, aka Chocolatte) really just update his blog? OMG, he did! What has it been now...4 months. 5 months? Now we just have to hope that he can actually keep it up.

And on the blog note; Hats of to Dale who has decided, like all good things, that his blog must come to an end. Sad :-(

A lot to catch up on

So I realize I dropped off the face of the earth there for a minute. I'll try and update a bit more regularly now that work has died down. As some of you probably know, every three months, for about three weeks, I get super busy as I have to send out a ton of quarterly reports to clients. Anyway, lots of things to catch you up on. In no particular order:

1) I'm in Los Angeles at the moment. Have been here all weekend but will be returning to DC tonight on the red-eye. Side note: I HATE red-eyes but they are just too damn convenient. Especially for those of us that are a little bit poor on vacation days. The weather here has been phenominal! Yesterday my friend and I went up to Malibu to hang out at the beach for a bit. After that we came back and went to the refurbished Griffith Observatory. It was neat, but there were WAY too many kids around.

2) Halloween (the actual day) wasn't very eventful. Grace Jones nd I played Civilization (shut up, bitches!) and then went to JR's. We only stayed for about 10 mins as it was a SHIT SHOW in there. Haven't seen it that crowded in ages. Line of the evening:

Grace: I see a lot of zombies in here...

Oh wait...those are trolls.

3) The Saturday before Halloween, Taylor Jean, Twin Sister and I headed up into the stix for a party hosted by this guy. Despite the great distances involved, we had a great time. At least from what I can remember. Towards the end things get a bit hazy. Why were things "hazy" you might ask? Well obviously we drank at the party. But not enough to be as wasted as I was. You see, sometime around 3 pm Twin Sister phoned me and the following conversation ensued:

Me: Hello?
Twin Sister: Hey girl, I'm bored. What are you doing?
Me: Not much, just doing a bunch of laundry. Why, what did you have in mind?
TS: Meh, I don't know. I have a half-handle of vodka here. I could bring it over and we can have afternoon tea?
Me: Hot!

So Twin Sister comes over, and of course we finish off the half-handle of vodka. And then some. Taylor Jean also stopped by and after we finished off the booze, headed to El Tamarindo for dinner (more drinks there), and then the party. El Tamarindo, BTW, isn't half bad.

4) As I mentioned before, I was in New York a few weeks ago to hang out with the BBC, among others, and to see Tom Stephan. Tom Stephan was obviously out. of. control. Crobar is an awesome space, with a great sound system. Top that off with fierce beats and you hae the recipe for a great time. Since this post seems to be all about posting conversations, let me offer you another one. This one takes place on Tom Stephan's message board:

Hey Tom,

[Miscellaneous message about the fun times deleted, not important to this post]

Thanks for the good times!
-Chris

PS. Two quick questions: Can you tell me what the second song is on your AgeHa podcast? And pretty please can you tell me what remix of Diddy-Come To Me you played Sat night?

Response:

hey chris

the second track on radio chumbo 2 is a mashup of the classic strictly rhythm track "raise your house" and "sexy f*ck". and that was the ATFC remix of Diddy handed to me by Diddy himself- did you see him up by the booth?

Hope to see you at Cielo in December!
T

Say what? Umm, nope. Didn't see him. Def missed that one. Was standing right there too. But as Grace so elequently commented: "Ya, Diddy could've walked right up and shook my hand and still I wouldn't have known..."

5) I'm trying to think if there is anything else. Got some new stuff for the house. The bf and I hit a bump but now we are ok and still going strong. No other big trips planned until Christmas when I go home to SF. Then of course there is Australia and New Zealand in March. Can't wait!
